KUALA SELANGOR, June 9 – Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar said today that the concept of a welfare state held espoused by PAS at its 57th congress last week had long been practiced by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
The Federal government had allocated RM1.5 billion per annum for scholarships, food assistance and text book schemes for schools, said Noh, who is also the Tanjong Karang Member of Parliament, after presenting Excellent Student Awards to 410 students at his constituency here today.
Umno Tanjong Karang had contributed RM825,000 to educational programmes in the area last year, he added.
“PAS is willing to sacrifice its cause for an Islamic state and promote a welfare state just to accomodate DAP and PKR, he added.
